Professor Swirski Received his PhD in Finance from the Stern School of Business, New York University, in 1980. He won the Herman Kroos award for outstanding doctoral dissertation: "Optimal Capital Structure of Mixed Enterprises."
Professor Swirski has a MSc in Production Engineering from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. His 1972 thesis was on the topic: "Optimal Investment Portfolios of Brazilian Equities."
Swirski is the Executive Partner of MSW Value Management, a consulting company dedicated to business valuation, strategic control systems and improving the link between finance and operations. Swirski was also a co-founder of PDG, a private educational institute for senior managers set up in 1987 and associated with the Ibmec Business School since 1998. He has been Professor of Finance at Ibmec since 1998.
From 1994 to 1996, he was involved as Coordinator with StrAct, an applied education project in competitive strategy jointly sponsored by PEG and the Monitor Company.
Dean of the Graduate School of Business (COPPEAD) of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro from 1982 to 1985, Professor Swirski was also active as Associate Professor of Finance at Federal University of Rio de Janeiro from 1971 to 1998.
Professor Swirski participated as a member of the Board of Social Sciences at the National Research Council from 1985 to 1986 and has been recipient of the Alfred P. Sloan (1978-79) and CAPES/Brazilian Government Fellowships (1976-1980).
